Valentines Boxes

Another tradition that we have for Valentine's Day is making fancy Valentines Boxes. Mark is the Valentines Box Making Extroadinaire!! Each year he asks the girls what kind of box they want to have and then he constructs it, usually out of other boxes. Sometimes they are pretty big, but this year they were definitely the biggest ever!! (I was almost embarrassed carrying Morgan's through the school because it was so huge and the legs were falling off as we walked down the hall!!)
Morgan decided that she wanted a giraffe and she wanted it to be big. Mark made the giraffe out of boxes and cylinders and then Morgan papier mached it, painted it, and covered it with construction paper spots. Morgan even made the papier mache mixture on her own. (The yellow paper hanging off the giraffe's chin is a post-it note that had a number to use for judging it for the contest).
Here is Morgan with the prize that she won. The 5th graders in the girls' elementary school have a contest every year. They give 1st through 3rd places for each class and 1st through 3rd places overall. Morgan won 1st place in her class as well as overall so she was pretty excited!!!
Here is Maddie's box. She had decided a while ago that she wanted a flower so she ended up doing flower Valentines to match her flower box. Mark made the box and then Maddie painted it. Maddie's teacher commented on how impressed she was with Maddie's box.
