Maddie's Ornament Party
This was our final ornament party for the year and it turned out to be the most stressful. I've talked to several parents since the party and the girls all seemed to have a great time. I think it was just mainly me that got stressed out and the major drama really only lasted about 10 minutes. Maddie got really ornery to Nancy and Reagan and Morgan was trying to act "cool" and was causing problems. All of the problems definitely started with Maddie & Morgan and they just escalated from there. At one point I think about half of the girls were crying!
The ornaments were pretty much all made when the drama happened. Marissa gathered all of the girls in a circle and started playing a rhythm game with them. It really did smooth things out.
By this point, Morgan was banned from participating but the game even got Maddie participating and smiling once again. Once peace was restored, we were able to do the gift exchange and that went much smoother then last year!
Maddie really enjoyed making the snowflake ornament with silver pipe cleaners and tri star beads. Most of the girls did all of the ornaments at this party which tells me that I did pretty good at planning age appropriate activties!!
This year I had organized and planned in advance for these ornament parties like never before. It helped so much. However, at the end of Maddie's party I was just so frustrated and disappointed with my 2 girls. I feel like these ornament parties are a way to share our love of crafting with others, but we all need to be happy and think of the feelings of others! We definitely missed that objective at Maddie's party. I talked to my girls the next day and we've decided that we aren't going to do any ornament parties next year. We will do some smaller scale activities and hopefully I can instill in my girls the importance of getting along and caring about other people's feelings as well as giving to others!!
