This week's day trip was to Wilson Lake. The night before I was looking on roadsideamerica.com and found this gem in Wilson, KS. It was 2 miles south of the freeway and to get to Wilson lake you turn north, so it was basically a 4 mile detour. I thought it was well worth it. Funny, Funny!!
This was made last year in Hays, KS for the town of Wilson. Supposedly, it is supposed to be painted later this year to look like a fancy Czechoslovakian egg. I thought this was a GREAT photo op. Notice Maddie is not in the picture. Maddie's assessment of this site - "This is the stupidest thing I have every seen!" Maddie is going to love it sometime in the future when we are driving to Utah and we take a little detour to see this egg after it is painted! Ha, ha!!

After we took photographs at the egg, we wanted to get some postcards. I have been trying to get postcards from the crazy places we've visited and then mail them to Marissa. Now that I have postcard stamps in my purse, I can have people from our group sign the postcard and then immediately put a stamp on it. We were told that Grandma's Soda Shop had postcards so that is how we happened upon this marvelous little place. They did have postcards and I sent one to Marissa - probably the corniest postcard yet. It had a picture of the egg with about 20 people standing in front of it. Some of the people in the picture had made the egg, but it looks like another group's picture on the front of the postcard. Ha, ha!

The man at the counter was the owner. He was telling us how he got the equipment from a place in Topeka and it was originally from 1950. He had a guest book to sign and he was super excited we were there.
I love this little sign! It is definitely awesome!!
The owner offered for our group to go behind the counter and take a group picture. He also took a group picture of us to post on his facebook page!
A view of the old time 1950 soda shop counter. They added carbonated water and then flavoring to each soda. It was pretty great!
