Largest Ball of Twine - Day Trip to Crazy Kansas Sights

Once we left Nebraska, we started heading south and back towards home.  We stopped in Lebanon to get postcards and ice cream and then we headed towards Cawker City and the World's largest ball of twine.  It was about a 45 minute drive from the Nebraska border.
Cawker City Kansas - Home to the World's Largest Ball of Twine

Visiting the world's largest ball of twine had been on Regina's bucket list before she even moved to Kansas.  This is what she was looking forward to the most and she was not disappointed.

Group picture - The other 5 had visited the ball of twine earlier and everyone else except for me (who was the photographer) are in this picture.  Michelle, Jessica, Crawford, Mariah, Regina, Jackson, Cassey, Maddie, Morgan, Reagan (who isn't being cooperative), Kim, Abbey, Michael and Ashley.

Following "the yellow twine road"  pretty clever since we're in Kansas.  Ha, ha!!!

A trip to the world's largest ball of twine isn't complete without adding some twine to the ball so the ball is bigger when you leave.  The souvenir store across the street was closed, but it had a number we could call and the name of an inn.  No one answered at the inn.  We piled 12 people in my van and 3 people walked down the street to the inn.  No one was there but the door was open.  Kim ended up going in and cutting off a piece of twine for everyone in our group.  We didn't no if there was a charge so she just left a few dollars to be safe.  I also went in and saw that they had postcards and got a few of those.  I wanted to make sure Regina had one and I also needed to have one to send to Marissa!  When we got back to the twine, there was a couple there and Michael told them that we had just gone and stole some twine to add to the ball.  They were laughing.  I explained what we really did and told them how to get some twine, too.

Maddie finds an end to the ball of twine!
After the ball of twine, we headed towards home.  It was a little over an hour to Salina.  We stopped in Salina at a Mexican restaurant and ate dinner.  We had a big table with the kids on one end and the adults on the other.  Everyone was having a great time together.  Cassey introduced a game to the kids where everyone takes a packet of sugar and opens it.  They fill one packet with salt and mix them up.  Then everyone takes their packet and pops it in their mouth at the same time and then they try and guess who has the salt.  Maddie got the salt!  It was pretty easy to guess, but she was a good sport about it!
We got home about 10:30 so it was a long, full day, but it was so much fun!!!  We made alot of great memories.  I'm sure it is one of those days we will remember for a long time because it was so unique!!
