A few years ago there was a list of 50 things to do in Wichita published in the paper. One of the things on the list was to watch a wheat harvest. I had no idea how to go about doing this and this is something we had never done. However, about a month ago I happened to ask the right person. Gary had a friend of a friend who is a wheat farmer and Gary made arrangements for us to go up to Moundridge, Kansas and watch them harvest wheat
This is a picture of the wheat field. In the front you can see the wheat that has been cut and the taller wheat is the wheat that still needs to be cut.
The loader pulls up beside the combine so the wheat can be unloaded on the go.
Maddie has just climbed into the loader truck to go for a ride!

The combine as it cuts wheat in the field.
Michelle and Reagan are riding in the combine with Russ.

Reagan, Maddie and Lowell. After we all rode in the combine and the girls rode in the loader, the girls then road in the truck to take the wheat to the grain elevator. They really enjoyed doing that. They were especially excited that they got a free Gatorade while they were at the grain elevator.
It was a great experience to go watch them harvest wheat - definitely a true Kansas experience. There are some wheat fields on 21st street not too far from our house. Now, if we happen to go by while they are harvesting the wheat we will understand what they are doing!
