Abilene - Heritage Center of Dickinson County

Our next stop in Abilene was the Heritage Center of Dickenson County.  The Museum of Independent Telephony is incorporated inside this museum.
The kids had a lot of fun talking on the phones!

This was my favorite thing.  To see the kids absolute fascination with the dial up telephones.  They were hooked up so they could dial the number and call each other.  They had never seen anything like this so I had to show them how they worked.  They probably called each other on the dial-up telephones for close to half and hour.  I was utterly amazed that these phones were so foreign and so fascinating to them.  I can vividly remember having phones like these in my home when I was growing up!

This sure is an interesting quote from 1877.  If only they could have seen our day when practically everyone would have their own phone, even kids!

A close-up of the two dial-up phones which the kids had so much fun with!

Swinging on a swing in the outside part of the museum!

Rob & Maddie on the carousel.  This old-fashioned carousel is over 100 years old and is enclosed in a building so it won't get damaged by the weather!

 Reagan loving the carousel!

Morgan using her ipod to take a video of her ride!

 Rob - watching the chickens!

Playing in and out of one of the outside buildings!
